English as a Second Language (ESL)
Students who attend NSA and are developing English as a Second Language (ESL) have opportunities built into their NSA experiences and academic day to develop their English language skills. An ESL teacher is available to work on vocabulary development on a scheduled basis. Students also have opportunities to receive scheduled guided study halls with a learning specialist and tutors within the curricular areas.
Teachers collaborate to offer strategies that enhance the classroom experience, modify materials, develop vocabulary, and advance a student’s learning. In addition to the scheduled ESL time, immersion through living within the academic and residential community, specific skills development in the structure of the English language, and support for the classroom work will be available to students in an effort to advance their learning of English as well as their academic learning.
